KEA hits and misses
Well, like a crazy woman I ventured to IKEA. Before you judge me, know that is was unplanned. I had a new client meeting at 9:00, and then a meeting with my accountant at 10:30, which is literally just down the street from IKEA. I was meeting Vince for lunch, but we didn't have plans yet, so I suggested he meet me there and we partake in the IKEA cafe.
I drove up with a sense of anxiousness. I thought maybe excitement, but thought about it for a minute and realized, no, it was a nervousness. Venturing into IKEA on it's 3rd day open and in some great heels, but heels none the less, could be a mistake.
So here's my wins...
I got to park fairly close.
The crowd was manageable
The product was as expected and there are lots of great options for projects
It confirmed it is a product line to mix with higher end items
I was inspired to organize the pantry with cheap organizing stuff
My lunch was excellent
The cream cake was even better
I felt good in my outfit today and trotted accordingly
A woman came up to me with her husband behind and said "I have to tell you my husband has commented on how great your outfit is twice and I thought I should tell you instead of him so it doesn't seem creepy"
With a milestone birthday approaching, and my clothes fitting not a guarantee these days, this made it all worth it :)
Now the misses...
Vince circled the parking lot until being directed to the old kmart 1 mile away
He then was asked to move 3 times to get in the proper spot for the shuttle
This delay for lunch I think affected his blood sugar levels and left him a little cranky
His chicken wrap was not as good as my salmon
I listened to a crazy mom speak with anger in her voice to her friends that the free daycare place required her to pick up "sweet Johnny" because "he was in a pull up. She was trying to save them the mess. It was ridculous." It went on and on. Because everyone should expect free daycare at a store?
The wide array of people was a hit for entertainment but a miss as well :)
I didn't buy any product because I was afraid of the lines which turned out to be manageable
Finally, while I felt great in my outfit and heels they were not a wise choice for the IKEA track. Next time tennis shoes.
So in summary, I highly recommend a visit. I will not be going back until it dies down a little. I feel like parking in the adjacent lot is imperative to me enjoying my trip. I will grab a bag and take product as I see it. Finally, god bless to the woman who told me I looked nice. It was an act of kindness that went further than it should have with a middle aged woman.
Here are some snapshots from my trip.
