I made my first trip to Grinders at Stonewall. It's a local favorite downtown but since it's a hike to get there I don't go much at all. But how fun, it's come to Lenexa! 103rd and Pflumm! The restaurant was started by an artist, STRETCH (Jeff Rumaner), who opened his place to serve his artist friends. Both restaurants are art gone wild. It's really fun. The bar ceiling is covered in street signs bringing amazing color. One beam has a sculptural wood piece that pokes through with a large nail on the other side. The sinks for the bathrooms appear to be tire rubber. It's all interesting. The pendant lights are old bed pans. I'm assuming well cleaned :) The building is the old stonewall kitchen and is rumored to be haunted. So at 9 pm every night the entire place toasts the ghost. Daryl, our excellent server, gave me all the good information.
However, Daryl had me at candied bacon. He described the best BLT I have ever had. My sandwich was out of this world. Everything on the menu sounded amazing. I am aware I have been complaining about the thought of dieting but it for sure any thought has to be put on hold for this culinary experience. I highly recommend the trip for the food, the fun and the art. Happy eating!
